Joni Deutsch

Joni Deutsch is Podcast Manager for WFAE, an NPR news source in Charlotte, NC. She studied at West Virginia University before earning a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication from American University.

Deutsch began her professional career with WLUR 91.5FM in Lexington, Virginia before transitioning to West Virginia Public Broadcasting, where she created and hosted two podcasts. In 2015, Deutsch became assistant producer for NPR Music’s program “Mountain Stage.” A year later, she became the program’s host, making her the youngest host of a nationally syndicated public radio program at the age of 24. In 2018, Deutsch launched “She Says,” WFAE’s first investigative podcast about a sexual assault case in Mecklenburg County, which hit the Top 200 on Apple Podcasts and was recognized by the Online Journalism Awards for “Excellence in Audio Digital Storytelling.”

Deutsch’s other awards and honors include West Virginia State Journal’s “40 under 40,” the Online Journalism Association’s “Women’s Leadership Accelerator,” and the Charlotte Agenda’s “30 under 30.”
